GET A CUSTOMIZED ATKINS DIET PLAN BASED ON YOUR PERSONAL DIET PROFILE
• Atkins DietThe Atkins Diet plan was
first created thirty years ago by Dr. Robert Atkins. His low-carb,
high-fat/high-protein weight loss approach, which has been used by over 15
million people, switches your metabolism to a primarily fat-burning system. With
this approach, you quickly lose pounds - and learn how to keep them off. • Frequently Asked Questions Can anyone start on the Atkins Diet? We recommend that anyone who is contemplating a weight loss program or other major shift in dietary patterns first consult his or her physician. Generally speaking though, Atkins is not recommended for people with severe kidney disease, diabetes, for pregnant women or nursing mothers, or for people being treated for high blood pressure. What are the phases of the diet? There are four phases: Induction (switching your body to fat-burning from carbohydrate burning), On-Going Weight Loss or OWL (actual weight loss phase), Pre-Maintenance (the transition phase from weight loss to maintaining your new optimum weight), and Weight Maintenance (maintaining your healthy weight). I love fruit. How can I live without it? Apples, peaches, pumpkin pie…oh yeah. You can still have fruit but in moderation. Some fruit has more carbs than a Milky Way®. On level 1 of Atkins, fruit is forbidden but a small apple or pear a day can be enjoyed on maintenance. What’s ketosis and why is it important to the plan? Ketosis is the backbone of
the diet. It’s considered a metabolic advantage to weight loss when the body
burns fat for fuel instead of converting carbohydrates for fuel. During the
absence of carbohydrates, the body will burn fat. Ketosis can be tested by
urinating on a Ketostix. If the stick or strip turns purple, ketosis it is. CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED WITH YOUR CUSTOMIZED ATKINS DIET PLAN
Do I have to buy special products? No. Unlike some other weight loss plans, the plan does not require purchases of extra products such as menu and recipe items, books, etc. However, there are books and products available that may help you, such as Atkins Bake Mix, which can be used as a substitute for flour. Join the club;
carbohydrates are everyone’s comfort food. When you’re eating steak and salad
with blue cheese dressing or bacon and eggs on the Atkins Diet, carbohydrates
takes a back seat to these other satisfying foods. Also the less carbs you eat,
the less carbs you crave. The diet recommends taking 500 mg of L-Glutamine, a
health food supplement that diminishes carb cravings. Snacks…gotta have them. After level 1 of the diet, you can have a glass of wine. But now have a handful of almonds and an ounce or two of cheese. Or try some crunchy celery sticks with cream cheese and peanut butter. Diets come and go. Why did it take so long for this diet to become popular and accepted? For decades the public have been brainwashed to follow the food pyramid suggesting starches/carbohydrates as the most desirable and fats as the least desirable. Since low-fat and fat-free products flooded the marketplace—weight gain and cardiovascular disease has been on the rise. Do I have to cut out sugar completely? Sugar is a carbohydrate, and is strictly controlled with the the plan, especially during the weight loss phase. If you require a sweetener, our preference is sucralose, marketed under the name Splenda®. It is derived from sugar but is non-caloric and has less than 1 gram of carbohydrates. Also, it does not break down when heated, making it perfect for baking. I have diabetes, will the plan still work for me? Yes it can, but please check with your doctor before you start. When you control carbohydrates with the plan, you regulate your blood sugar levels in your body, as well as insulin production. Can I drink coffee or alcohol? Alcohol is burned immediately in the body, so although it doesn't "stop" weight loss, it does postpone the burning of fat. Alcohol consumption, including light beer, is not recommended during initial phases of Atkins, but can be introduced in moderation afterwards. Caffeine, however, should be eliminated from the diet (slowly, if you have a caffeine addiction) since it affects blood sugar levels. Atkins Related Articles:
